The Genius New Tool That Could Make Travel Planning So Much Less Stressful
Hint: It will make getting recommendations from your families and friends easier than ever.
Planning the trip of a lifetime comes with a lot of excitement. And, as anyone who’s ever planned a vacation will tell you, it also comes with plenty of stress. From where to stay, shop, play, and eat, all the options can be a bit overwhelming. But now, TripAdvisor is hoping to change all that with some hyper-personal recommendations from your family, friends, and trusted experts.
TripAdvisor announced it will be rolling out a new travel feed by the end of the year, which it hopes will inspire and empower “individuals with social assistive tools to plan and book better from people and experts they trust." And yes, that will include your mom.
"We are assisting our members at each step of their journey as we become a more personalized, inspirational and useful TripAdvisor," said Stephen Kaufer, CEO & co-founder of TripAdvisor, in a statement.
Here’s how it works: When a user logs on to either the desktop or TripAdvisor App he or she will see their personalized feed, which will look and feel similar to scrolling through Facebook and Instagram. On the feed, users can follow their family, friends, favorite influencers, and brands, to get recommendations on different travel itineraries.
Users can search a specific destination and build their own trips based on recommendations from their community. This could include your cool aunt’s restaurant picks, your little brother’s hotel reviews, or a few tourist destinations National Geographic says you need to see. All of this will make your own itinerary planning much faster, easier, and stress-free.
The app will even help you on the go. TripAdvisor’s personalized feed will notify users while they are on vacation when they pass by a point of interest that one of their friends has reviewed on TripAdvisor. So you can still be spontaneous without running the risk of eating somewhere unworthy of your perfect vacation.
The new feed is still in closed beta, but will likely be available to travelers everywhere by the end of 2018. But, if you can’t wait that long, here are five smart and simple tips to planning your next vacation.
