With less than a month left in 2017, Airbnb is already looking ahead to the adventures that await in the new year. The company recently released its predictions for 2018 travel trends, including the top ten most-booked cities by Airbnb users and the most popular types of lodging. If you’ve ever wanted to visit Japan or wondered what it’s like to sleep in a yurt, this is going to be the year your travel dreams come true.

On Airbnb’s top ten list (see the full lineup below), Tokyo, Paris, and Osaka take the lead. With two of the top three cities located in Japan, it’s safe to say that the country is expected to see an increase in tourism in the year ahead. While some of the large cities that make the list are mainstays, like Paris, New York City, and London, some smaller cities have also made the cut, including Lisbon and Miami.

In addition to the most-booked cities, Airbnb also tracked the spots that have seen the largest increase in bookings. Midwestern cities in the U.S. are becoming more popular destinations; bookings in Indianapolis, Indiana have increased 256 percent, while those in Columbus, Ohio have risen 254 percent. Beach towns in Brazil and cities in Vietnam are also gaining in popularity.

As far as the types of lodging Airbnb users are booking, nature lodges have seen a 700 percent increase, while Japanese ryokan are up 600 percent. Yurts and RVs are also trending options for those who want something a little more exciting than a house or apartment. For Airbnb travelers, vacations aren’t just about comfort, but also trying something different. If you’re ready to venture outside your comfort zone, book a stay at one of these =15" title="yurts" context="body"] or try a luxury =6" title="treehouse" context="body"].
