Have a habit of delayed buyer’s remorse? Forget to keep receipts? Can’t get back to the store within two weeks? These eight stores have stellar policies that let you return merchandise even months after purchase, with or without that flimsy piece of paper.
The athletic wear brand offers free returns and exchanges by mail and in stores at any time for items purchased online. In store purchases can only be returned in store.
Purchases made at Bed Bath and Beyond can be returned at any time in store. If you have a receipt, you will receive a full exchange or merchandise refund in the form of payment. No receipt? They can look up any purchase made by credit or debit card number for an entire year and give you a full refund. If you paid with cash or if they are unable to track your purchase, they will offer store credit for 20 percent less than the current selling price. Online purchases can be returned in store, or to the processing center with the free included shipping label or by printing a new one.
Besides “premium electronics,” which must be returned in the 30 days after purchase, all other merchandise can be returned to Kohl's stores at any time. If you are returning something within a year after the purchase date, you’ll receive the full amount you paid in the method you paid with a receipt. No receipt? They can look up your purchase via credit or debit card for a full exchange; if you paid with cash, you can exchange for the current price or get store credit for the lowest sale price in the past 13 weeks. If you are returning an item more than a year after the purchase date, you can receive merchandise credit or a corporate-issued refund. Online purchases can be returned in-store or by mail with the same restrictions previously listed, but Kohl's does not offer free return shipping.
Lands’ End return policy is “Guaranteed. Period.” That means you can return items at any time if you are not satisfied, even if it’s personalized. You can get a full refund with a receipt in the original form of purchase within nine months. If you purchased more than nine months ago, they will give you a refund check. No receipt or record of purchase? They’ll give you a gift card in the amount of the item’s lowest sale price. If you purchased at a Lands’ End shop in Sears, you must return your purchase at Sears. If you purchased at a Lands’ End retail store, you must return to a stand-alone Lands’ End store. If you ordered online or on the phone, you can return to any full line Sears store, or use a provided return label (Lands' End will deduct $6.95 from your refund for the label). If you are exchanging an item for another size or color, the company's customer care line (1-800-963-4816) will waive the shipping fee.
There are reports that the company’s famous return policy is changing. But, for now, you can still return or exchange anything purchased from L.L. Bean at any time. The retailer does have certain restrictions and may decline a return in some situations (if the items were not directly purchase from L.L. Bean or items with missing labels). You will be reimbursed in the original amount and method of payment with a receipt. You only have 60 days to return merchandise to Neiman Marcus stores and by mail, but they do offer an option to return for early credit for select purchases. This means you will be refunded for your purchase just as soon as the post office scans your return shipping label. They also offer free returns within 15 days of delivery for online purchases, otherwise you will have to pay for return shipping.
Though there were rumors floating around that Nordstrom changed it’s popular return policy, the store’s policy is still decided on a case-by-case basis. If you have a receipt, you will receive your credit in the form of payment. If you don’t have a receipt, Nordstrom will look up the transaction history to refund you in the original form of payment, but if the retailer can't find the record of sale, you’ll receive a refund at the item’s current price on a Nordstrom gift card. Online orders can be returned at any Nordstrom store or via mail for free with the included shipping label, or by printing out a new one on the store's website.
