It’s normal to have trouble spelling certain words, even if you were a spelling bee champ in grade school. Who can remember if “broccoli” has one L or two? And if “tomorrow” has two Ms and/or two Rs. Apparently these are common questions all throughout the United States.

In honor of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, the big annual event in which hundreds of students compete for a trophy, cash prizes, and much more, Google compiled a list of the most commonly misspelled words in every state. The list is based on top search data in 2017.

You’ll see that residents of some states have a hard time spelling the same words—people in California, Kentucky, Minnesota, New York, and Ohio all have trouble with “beautiful,” while those in Illinois, Maine, Michigan, and Washington frequently misspell “pneumonia.”
