Practical advice for making your union last, from people who know: couples whose relationships have stood the test of time.
Talk about love at first sight. When one-year-old Elmer set eyes on two-week old Imogene at a party, he announced, “I want that baby!” Still smitten in elementary school, he proposed with a ring from a box of Cracker Jack. (She turned him down.) It wasn’t until Imogene, now 78, was a senior in college that they finally went on a real date. On their third evening out, Elmer, 79, proposed again. This time she said yes, and two children and two grandchildren later, the Gary, Indiana couple has no regrets. Video by Gillian Laub.
