In one of the most heartbreaking odes of friendship, one white lab honored the death of her older brother in a now-viral moment.

On Sunday, one Twitter user shared two images: one was a photo of a half-eaten bowl of dog food and the other was the story behind it.

“So we have only one food bowl for my two labs,” the Twitter user wrote about his dogs. “And my dog Stitch trained my other dog Cookie to only eat half of the food that’s in the bowl. So ever since she was young she knew to leave half of the food so Stitch can have some (he liked to make sure she would eat).

“Now Stitch recently passed away. And this is [Cookie’s] first time alone. So since Stitch is gone, I’ve been feeding Cookie less food. Well before I went to bed, I wanted to check to see if she ate. And so I did, and she still left half of her food there so Stitch can eat it.”

People everywhere joined in mourning Stitch’s death with their online reactions to the post.

“Now I gotta clock back into work and explain why I’m crying,” said one responder, while another commented, “she doesn’t deserve this.”

Meanwhile, one was particularly impressed by how the late Stitch managed to train his pal to split her share of food, and wrote, “I can’t even teach my dog to sit.”

Within four days, the original post had a whopping 44,000 likes and over 21,000 retweets. And after receiving such a response, the owner shared photos of his beloved fur friends.
