After declaring bankruptcy in 2017, the company will shutter 180 of its 881 U.S. stores.
Bribe your kids with a trip to Toys R Us after their check-up? Stock up on your favorite brand of formula and diapers at Babies R Us? You might need to change your ways. The parent company of the toy and baby product meccas has just announced that it will close 180 of its 881 U.S.-based stores in April.
If your local store is on the list, there's no need to panic: Registries will still be accessible online, and store credit cards, gift cards, and loyalty programs will be honored online as well. (See the full list of stores closing below.)
According to a letter from Dave Brandon, the company’s chairman and chief CEO, the closures come after a “top-to-bottom assessment” of the business, following bankruptcy filings in 2017. Brandon added that he hopes closing these stores will give the company more resources to better serve their customers.
There is a silver lining, though. In early February, locations that are closing will hold clearance sales—the perfect opportunity to stock up on essentials and gifts.
