Reese Witherspoon’s January Book Club Pick Is the Perfect Winter Read
If you’re searching for some new titles to add to your bedside book stack, you’ll want to bump Reese Witherspoon’s latest book club pick right to the top of your winter reading list. On Instagram this afternoon, Witherspoon revealed that this month’s read is Braving the Wilderness, by Brené Brown ($16; amazon.com).
In the caption to her post, Witherspoon writes that this book made her “stop and think.” “Brené Brown speaks of how divided our world is politically, socially, racially, and how we can bridge that divide with more civility and consciousness. Listening is key. Compassion is key,” she writes. In this New York Times bestseller, Brené Brown, a research professor at the University of Houston, encourages readers to find the courage to stand on their own, and offers four practices for true belonging in a society that’s rife with disconnection. “I can’t wait to hear your thoughts about this thought-provoking book,” writes Witherspoon.

Before the new pick was revealed, Witherspoon asked followers of her book club’s Instagram account (@reesesbookclubxhellosunshine) to guess the book by teasing five clues. The first clue is that the book is non-fiction, the second clue is that it’s by a bestselling author, and the third is that the author has two dogs. The fourth clue is that the author subscribed to the phrase “the higher the hair, the closer to God" while growing up, a reference to Dolly Parton and Brené Brown’s hairstyle circa 1986. The last clue is that the author’s Instagram account has over 700,000 followers. Currently, the account has reached 750,000 followers.
