The One Major Problem With Lifetime’s Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Movie
The network announced more cast members for Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance, but there’s one huge error. You had one job, Lifetime!
You can’t have a movie about the royals without a mention of Prince William and Kate Middleton—even if said movie is supposed to be all about younger brother Prince Harry and his fiancée Meghan Markle. Lifetime just announced that it cast actors in the roles of Prince William, Duchess Kate, Prince George, and Prince Charlotte for the upcoming royal wedding TV movie, Harry & Meghan: A Royal Romance.
While we think Lifetime should have used the same actors they cast in 2011’s William & Kate: The Movie for continuity’s sake, maybe the original stars weren’t available (Camilla Luddington, who played Kate in the first film, is currently on Grey’s Anatomy). Instead, Lifetime cast Australian actor Burgess Abernethy and Singapore-born actress Laura Mitchell in the roles. Preston Karwat and Briella Wintraub will portray the littlest royals, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
Sure, we can forgive Lifetime for not being able to get the original stars of William & Kate to reprise their roles, but can we really forgive the network for another major error? In the first promotional photos of the royal family, Prince George is wearing pants. Pants! From previous reporting, we know that the little prince exclusively wears shorts in public because it’s tradition. How hard is it to get some shorts and knee socks these days? We will give the producers credit for getting Kate’s flawless waves correct, though.
For now, we’ll pause judgment on the film until it airs on Lifetime in May, but if you need a royal consultant, we would gladly volunteer.
