No. 3 might surprise you.
Whether it’s blasting Mariah Carey or tuning into TBS’s A Christmas Story marathon, everyone has their own way of getting into the holiday spirit. Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, for example, spread Christmas cheer by queuing up a few favorite movies.
On December 6, Shepard talked to Real Simple about his upcoming holiday plans at the debut of Charmin’s free-to-the-public restroom launch in Times Square.
“We’re a big, big Christmas family,” said the actor and father of two. “Kristen and I are both obsessed with the holiday. It was the highlight of my childhood—my mom pulled out all the stops for Christmas. So this year we will road trip to Oregon, where my mom lives, and we’ll spend Christmas there.”
One consistent holiday tradition in the Bell-Shepard household? Turning on their go-to flicks.
“Christmas Vacation’s our favorite,” he said. “Bad Santa...but my weird favorite is Gremlins. They show it at ArcLight [Cinemas] in Hollywood every year around this time, so I usually try to go and see it on the big screen.”
Bad Santa, the 2003 film starring Billy Bob Thornton, and 1984's hit horror movie Gremlins are now streaming on Netflix. You can find Shepard's No. 1 pick, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, on Amazon.
As for their little ones, it’s all about PAW Patrol. Shepard says his daughters, 4-year-old Lincoln and 2-year-old Delta, can’t get enough of the animated Nickelodeon series.
“They’re obsessed ... it’s their life,” he said.
