The actress and her husband welcomed son Hayes on New Year’s Eve.
Jessica Alba had a lot to celebrate when ringing in the new year. The Honest Company co-founder and actress gave birth to a baby boy, Hayes Alba Warren, on December 31st. Alba and her husband Cash Warren are already parents to two daughters, nine-year-old Honor and six-year-old Haven.
She announced her newest arrival on Instagram on New Year’s Day with a sweet photo and the caption, “Cash and I feel so blessed. Haven and Honor are already obsessed with their new baby bro.”
After we fawned over the picture of the adorable newborn, we wanted to learn more about his unique name, Hayes. According to Nameberry, a website for expecting parents to research and explore new baby names, Hayes is of English origin and means “hedged area.” Nameberry describes the moniker as “One of those simple, straight-forward English surnames—and with a presidential pedigree—that’s easy to translate into a first.” The name has also been given to girls, too: “Like similar nature-based surnames like Rivers or Forrest, Hayes has potential as a feminine name, even more so given its soft sound which is reminiscent of Hazel.” Other famous Hayes’ include the actor Hayes MacArthur and Kevin Costner’s eight-year-old son, Hayes Logan Costner.

While we think the elegant and simple connotation the name presents is one of the reasons why Alba and Warren chose the name for their son, we also suspect the first letter of the name played a big factor. Both of their daughters have names that start with an “H” so they probably wanted to continue the tradition for their growing brood.
