We love when celebrities get real, especially when one of our favorite celeb couples, Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, give us the inside scoop on their marriage. We already know they fight over La-Z-Boy furniture, he’s “nursed” her back to health, and she’s shared her honest marriage advice. And now, Shepard just revealed why he’s glad that his wife is more successful than him while he made an appearance on Conan.

“When we first started dating, I had more money than her. I owned the house that I lived in,” Shepard told Conan O’Brien. “She said to me at one point, ‘Would you like a prenup?’ because we were getting married.” Shepard declined the prenup, even though in reality, he wanted one “really badly.” It worked out really nicely for him in the end, though—“The joke is now on her because she’s become much more successful than me and has much more money than me… or does she?” We appreciate a man who’s not afraid of a successful woman!

Shepard also talked about the time Bell made an appearance on his podcast, “Armchair Expert,” and things didn’t really go according to plan. “It was a disaster right out of the gates,” he said. “I think she thought I was trying to unveil some big secret of hers, which I was not. And she also had plans to go to Michael’s to buy crafting stuff at the same time, and she was annoyed that that was the day she was supposed to be buying yarn or something—that really set her off.”

The couple bickered on the podcast, but Shepard decided to release it to the public anyways. “I thought, ‘No, this is the whole thing,’ Shepard said. “Sometimes we’re in Samsung commercials canoodling at Christmastime, and sometimes we’re screaming at each other about Michael’s. That’s just how it is; it’s a real marriage.”
