Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast may have a little girl to thank in part for the box office records it just set during opening weekend. According to the film’s own Dan Stevens (aka Beast), his now-7-year-old daughter, Willow, influenced the famous ballroom scene by advising Emma Watson on the design of Belle’s iconic yellow gown.
Sitting down with the hosts of the U.K.’s This Morning, Stevens explained how it all went down during a dinner at his home. “And so [Emma Watson and I] are talking about the dress and the dress design, and Willow—who was 5 at the time—she kind of overheard the conversation, and we were talking away ... and she nipped off next door, pen and paper, and came back about half an hour later with five different dress designs.”
Who says fairytales can’t mirror reality? In true Disney fashion, one of Willow and Emma’s joint designs ended up becoming the very dress Belle wears in the film.
“A few weeks later, Willow comes on set, and Emma’s there in the dress, and she just looked at me and went, ‘Yep, that’s the one,’” Stevens added.
