Her name is Dr. Orchid, and she’s very suspicious.
Never again will players suspect Mrs. White of being in the library with the candlestick. After more than 50 years lurking around the mansion, Hasbro plans to retire the housekeeper in August. In her place will be Dr. Orchid, who is described as a “biologist with a PhD in plant toxicology, privately schooled in Switzerland until her expulsion following a near-fatal daffodil poisoning incident.” Does that mean a new weapon will be introduced as well? Maybe... a watering can?
Following her expulsion, Hasbro revealed that Dr. Orchid was actually home-schooled by Mrs. White. Whether or not she had a hand in her exit from the mansion... only time will tell. Dr. Orchid is also the adopted daughter of Samuel Black, the mansion’s real owner.
Clue has been a family-favorite since 1949, and practically everyone has grown familiar with its cast of characters—the rest of whom remain in the game. From Miss Scarlet to Professor Plum, the game has changed very little over the years, making this the first major move from Hasbro HQ.
“It was a difficult decision to say goodbye to Mrs. White—but after 70 years of suspicious activity, we decided that one of the characters had to go,” Jonathan Berkowitz, Hasbro Gaming’s senior vice president of global marketing, said in a statement. “Dr. Orchid is a brilliant new character with a rich backstory and links to the Black fortune. We’re sure families around the world will continue to create thrilling murder mysteries with all six suspects inside of the iconic Tudor Mansion.”
