If you can't wait until the Anne of Green Gables miniseries premieres on Netflix in 2017, there's another movie based on the beloved children's novel coming to PBS on Thanksgiving night, November 24. After your big Thanksgiving meal, instead of lying around in a food coma, gather the whole family to watch the television adaptation, which will premiere 8 p.m. EST.

The TV movie will be based on the first book of the series—which tells the story of orphan Anne Shirley, who is sent to live with brother and sister pair Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert on Canada's Prince Edward Island. This adaptation will star West Wing's Martin Sheen as Matthew Cuthbert and 14-year-old Ella Ballentine as the title character.

Thanksgiving night on PBS is an homage of sorts to classic children's novels—after the Anne of Green Gables movie, the network will air the 2005 film version of Pollyanna (which if you're not familiar, is also about an orphan who is sent to live with her cold-hearted aunt). "We're excited to bring both Anne of Green Gables and Pollyanna to our viewers on Thanksgiving evening," Beth Hope, PBS's Chief Programming Executive and General Manager of General Audience Programming, said in a press release. "These two films are great examples of the quality, family-friendly programming PBS strives to provide during the holiday season and all year long."
