What Will Pregnant Princess Kate Wear to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's Spring Wedding?
The royal could be sporting a major baby bump, after all.
As speculations about the style of Meghan Markle’s wedding dress(es) begin to emerge, let us not forget about the other commoner-turned-royal bride: the Duchess of Cambridge.
If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning to tie the knot in Spring 2018, as announced, it’s possible that Princess Kate will be on the brink of giving birth to her third child with Prince William. In September, the couple announced they were expecting another little one in April.
Pending the official wedding date confirmation, the style icon will need a formal maternity outfit for her brother-in-law’s big day. Her exceptional taste has us guessing which designer a potentially-still-pregnant Kate will choose.
Kate has worn everything from a $63 ASOS dress (like this one!) to bespoke ensembles. But if past royal weddings (including her own), have shown us anything, it’s that the duchess will most likely opt for a custom-made dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
The McQueen creative director was the brains behind both of Princess Kate’s wedding gowns in 2011, and the royal trusted Burton to design the pink dress she wore for her sister Pippa Middleton’s wedding earlier this year. The royal family has not released the official wedding invitation, but Prince William and Kate’s requested guests follow a “Uniform, Morning Suit or Lounge Suit” dress code.
From her past wedding and maternity apparel choices, it’s safe to assume Burton will be crafting a tea-length wrap dress for the royal mother of (almost) three. Other contenders? A few of Kate’s other go-to designers are Jenny Packham, Max Mara and Emilia Wickstead.
As for the color, she probably won’t be able to wear her favorite color (white, according to a 2011 People interview). And while her blush tone dress at Pippa’s wedding was a showstopper, Kate appears to have a penchant for rocking blues and greens.
Whether Harry and Meghan tie the knot pre-baby in March or after, the Duchess of Cambridge will certainly make an entrance with a smile. On Monday, the couple sent their congratulations to the newly-engaged pair: 'We are very excited for Harry and Meghan,” the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said in a statement. “It has been wonderful getting to know Meghan and to see how happy she and Harry are together.”
