Taking My Closet from Unusable to Incredible
Confession: Even after I Marie-Kondoed my closet, still have a lot of clothes. This wasn't an issue at my previous two-bedroom apartment thanks to my 9-by-6-foot closet (seriously), but when I moved into my current one-bedroom it was goodbye walk-in—or at least I thought.
My closet already had a long rod on one side, but it wasn't close to being enough to store let alone organize my clothes. My dad being the problem-solver he is thought of the ingenious idea to try a closet organizer. After many hours of internet searching, I decided on the Rubbermaid Deluxe Custom Closet Organizer. I liked that I could configure the pieces in several ways, as well as easily adjust them if I didn't like the original placement. The 2,220 five-star Amazon reviews are what really sold me, so adding it to my virtual cart was a no-brainer.
I confirmed with my landlords that adding extra holes in the wall would be okay (I highly recommend you do this to avoid possible fees) and since they said I wouldn't be charged, we installed it. Even for a tool-novice like me, I thought installation was super easy. We used the included hardware to attach the upright pieces, and once that was done we just snapped the shelves into place. It took a few tries for me to find the best configuration, but it wasn't an issue as the pieces could pop out easily.
I used the small shelves for shoe and accessory storage, the top shelves for out-of-season storage, and even opted for the tie and belt rack, which I actually use to hold necklaces. It holds so much, and I even have space to hang coats—or ya know, buy more clothes.
If you're considering this closet system, remember to measure your space. It comes in 3-to-6 or 4-to-8-foot sizes in either a titanium or white finish—I chose 4-to-8 in titanium. You can also customize it with attachments like a sliding basket, pants rack, and shoe shelf and buy extra shelves or hooks as needed. I couldn't be happier with the sturdy quality, and knowing I'll be able to uninstall it and take it with me to my next home is a major bonus. If organizing your closet has been on your to-do list for awhile, now is the time to finally check it off, especially since you can score this ingenious closet system for nearly half off!
