Just because your home doesn’t have a fireplace, that's no reason to skip the holiday mantel. Look around your space and find another spot for a festive scene—a tv console, the top of a low bookcase, or a long shelf are all great options. Whichever area you choose, you can transform it into a makeshift mantel in three simple steps.

Set the Scene With a Table Runner

If you typically only pull out your favorite table runner once per year, this is a great way to put it to use. Lay the runner down the center of the tv stand, and let the edges fall over the sides. Choose a metallic runner for a modern design, or opt for one in a classic red-and-green pattern for a more traditional look.

Play With the Decorations

To find decorations for the mantel, search through your holiday ornament bin, then raid your kids’ toy collection. Hang a few ornaments off the edge of the tv stand, and embellish with a cute toy truck or a trio of adorable toy birds. Keep it sophisticated by adding a Scandinavian-inspired garland, mug, and candlesticks.

Hang the Stockings With Care

If your console table sits too low to the ground to hang stockings along the side, use removable wall hooks to display stockings above the tv.
