The Best Sweatproof Makeup

On sweltering days or even those times when you really don't want to be seen at the gym without makeup on, certain formulas will last, while others will seem to melt right off your face. We asked Connecticut based dermatologist and associate clinical processor of dermatology at Yale School of Medicine, Mona Gohara, for her thoughts on the subject. She recommends sticking with mineral powders as “they absorb oils while giving you great coverage.” She also says to avoid oil- or liquid-based makeup that could clog pores or sweat away. Here, five standouts.

Powder: Colorescience Sunforgettable Loose Mineral Sunscreen Brush Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This water-resistant tinted powder is not only a mineral formula (read: won’t clog your pores and soaks up sweat and oil), it also contains SPF 30 so you don’t have to worry about getting burned when you're spending the day outdoors. It’s also dispensed through a brush, making it super easy and quick to reapply.

Foundation: Sweat Mineral Foundation Powder

If you like a little more coverage, turn to this powder. It contains good-for-skin ingredients like vitamin E (an antioxidant) and milk this (anti-inflammatory). It also contains zinc oxide, which works as a physical sunscreen (doesn’t get into your pores).

Lipstick: Revlon ColorStay Overtime Lip Color

If you’re looking for more color than a balm, try this. For color that lasts, just swipe on clean lips and wait for it to dry before eating or drinking. It also comes with a glossy topcoat that you can reapply throughout the day. And with 24 shades to choose from, there’s likely an option for everyone.

Brows: Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color

While a brow “marker” might sound scary, it actually leaves more of a watercolor-like finish (very faint and lifelike). Plus, the real brush helps create perfect hair-like strokes. It quickly dries into skin and won’t flake or smear when you sweat.
