Keydra is the senior editor at Real Simple magazine covering health, travel, lifestyle, pop culture, entrepreneurship, pets, and more.


Keydra graduated from CUNY John Jay College of Criminal Justice with a focus in forensic psychology. She got her start in journalism by freelance writing for one of the oldest African American–geared newspapers in the country, New York Amsterdam News. Her passion for journalism led her the arts and culture program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY. In her final year of graduate school, she interned at NBC Universal and Consumer Reports.

Keydra became the entertainment editor at The Tylt in 2018. Later she started as a staff writer at theGrio in 2020, where she was able to extensively research, write, and edit stories covering the intersection of race, popular culture, and the arts. Her work has led to radio appearances on WVON Morning Show in Chicago and panel speaking engagements with Ad Week.

In August of 2022, Keydra joined Real Simple as the senior editor and contributes her pop culture expertise to the magazine's pet, travel, entrepreneur, and first-person sections.


Keydra holds a bachelor's degree in forensic psychology from John Jay College. She also holds a master's degree in journalism from the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism with a focus on arts and culture.
