We can't stop staring at these stunning porches.
As the warm weather inspires us to head outside, we inevitably start to give our outdoor living spaces some critical glances. From backyards that could use a serious overhaul, to front porches that are in need of paint touch-ups and new furniture, 'tis the season for sprucing. To help boost your home's curb appeal before all of the spring and summer get-togethers start, we turned to the best front porches on Instagram for inspiration. Borrow the paint color from one, the container gardening trick from another, and your own front yard will look Insta-ready in no time.
Layer on the Textiles
If your ideal front porch conjures images of a cozy cushioned swing, lots of pillows, and mood lighting courtesy of outdoor lanterns, then this scene from Happy Days Farm is all the inspiration you'll need. The best way to make this outdoor space feel more like an extension of your home is to layer on the textiles, starting with a rug underfoot, piling on the pillows and throw blankets, and adding cushions to all seating (no matter if it's a porch swing or a wicker side chair). Even if your porch is protected by an overhang, choose fabrics that are weather-resistant so they can withstand an unexpected rain shower and won't fade in the sun.
Let Low-Maintenance Plants Set the Scene
While adding plants to your front yard requires some initial investment, if you choose an easy-to-care-for variety, it can pay off with years of low-maintenance beauty. Exhibit A: the stunning hydrangea in this yard captured by Dulci Edge. Not sure what to plant? These 5 varieties are drop-dead gorgeous, yet almost impossible to kill.
Roll Out a Welcome Mat (or Two!)
If you want a quick trick to get your front stoop guest-ready, borrow a brilliant idea from blogger Wendy Durnwald and double up (maybe even triple up) on welcome mats. She first set the groundwork with a green buffalo plaid outdoor rug ($20; target.com), then topped it off with a durable coir mat that guests can wipe their shoes on ($25, target.com).
Add a Pop of Unexpected Color
Any designer will tell you that adding an element of surprise will elevate a space's decor. The same rule applies to outdoor spaces, too. Take a tip from blogger Annie Diamond and give the front door a fresh coat of paint in a fun color. She chose Angel Kiss by Behr, a sweet shade of pink.
Splurge on a Porch Swing
Is it even a porch if you don't have a porch swing? Not only does this summer staple make your home look more inviting, but you and your family will enjoy relaxing outdoors all season long. This pretty rattan option is a splurge ($898; serenaandlily.com), but we think it's fair to classify this purchase as both a new bed and a new sofa, considering all of the use you'll get out of it.
