As 2019 home décor trends move in a more maximalist direction—animal prints, Art Deco, and tie-dye, oh my!—home accents are getting flashier and more colorful. Some crazes, though, are making sure homes are still soothing, replenishing places where people can rest and recharge, and the trend leading that movement is crystals.

Crystals are said to bring good vibes into a home, boost energy, and add ambiance; some people even say they have healing properties. This may all sound a little woo-woo, but there’s no denying that the right home décor can change the feel of a room, as well as the look, and certain colors—particularly paint colors—can definitely have gentle mood-altering effects. (Some paint colors can even make you happier.) Neutral paint colors can be calming, while dark paint colors have more confident, comforting vibes. The right kitchen color schemes can get people in the mood to eat, energize, or even help with satiety. So why can’t crystals have a little magic of their own?

Buy into the trend or don’t, but regardless, crystals tend to have pastel hues and can inspire complementary paint colors that help bring good vibes and energies into a home. To help make the right picks, Behr paint color expert Erika Woelfel shared crystal and paint color pairings to bring home positive design vibes. Scroll on to see her picks, and think about which colors might bring your home the right energies—with or without accompanying crystals.

Clear quartz crystals purportedly balance the body, and this low-key paint color can help do the same thing. “I love applying this clean, pure white in an entryway—the first space you see anytime you return home—to help you return to a sense of calm,” Woelfel says.

Rose quartz is beloved for its comforting and relationship-strengthening tendencies. Woelfel suggests painting a matching hue in bathrooms, where it can encourage love, respect, and trust while you get ready in the morning and practice a soothing skincare routine at night.

Paired with joyful citrine crystals (or not), this paint color can nonetheless inspire wonder and enthusiasm. “We recommend pairing Spirited Yellow with citrine in your office to inspire creativity and concentration,” Woelfel says. “Place the crystal on your desk or paint an accent wall or wooden chair to bring energy and inspire productivity.”

Amethyst is known in crystal-loving circles for stopping bad vibes in their tracks. Woelfel recommends using a paint color inspired by the stone near the entrance to your home—on a bench, flower pot, or even the front door, for example—to protect it and its occupants.

For healing of the mind, body, and soul, turn to turquoise gems—or a corresponding paint color. Some say they can even promote healthy eating habits. “Combine turquoise with Antigua in your dining room to foster the perfect entertaining space to relax and enjoy a nourishing meal after a long day,” Woelfel says.

Bloodstones, despite their name, have a muted green hue, and are used for their healing properties. Woelfel suggests using a similarly hued paint color in the kitchen for a grounded space that both fights bad energies and offers feelings of renewal. (Using Ecological as a kitchen cabinet paint color would also be very on-trend.)

Sapphire is often presented as a royal color, and sapphires make for very royal crystals. Used in a bedroom, the color (paired with the crystal, if you so choose) could ease depression, anxiety, and insomnia, Woelfel says, encouraging a better night’s sleep.
