If you stuck glow-in-the-dark stars on your ceiling as a kid (or are an avid stargazer as an adult), you’re going to love these gorgeous moon and planet-like lamps.
An Italian astrophysicist, who sells the creations on her Etsy shop, has been making the intricate lamps for a little more than a year. She uses recycled or upcycled garden globes (also known as yard globes or gazing globes) as the base, then hand paints them with nontoxic materials. Every lamp is custom made for the buyer—the artist takes specific requests about the detailing or size—and can either be made as a table lamp or suspension (ceiling) lamp. They range from 25 to 30 centimeters in diameter and each one takes between 4 and 6 hours to make, according to Bored Panda. They can be displayed both indoors and out.
The pieces currently offered on Etsy represent the wide range of art she is able to create. The 'Delicate Moon' is detailed with craters, seas, hills, and shading, and features a slightly textured surface. She also has gorgeous Jupiter, Neptune, and Mars lamps, which are orange and white, blue, and orange-y red, respectively. All of the lamps are finished with a water-based lacquer, which makes them immune to scratches. And once the lamp is in your home, you can change its glow based on the lightbulb you install. A white light will give them a golden, romantic glow, while a cold light brings out the contrasts and details in the artwork. (If you live in the U.S., you will need an adapter to plug in the lamp.)
The pieces range in price from $72 to $111, but you can feel good about where the money is going. The artist uses her profits to take care of abandoned pets.
