IKEA Is Launching a Registry to Make Gifting Easier
Now you can register for a BILLY bookcase or a POÄNG chair.
IKEA fans, take note: Now you can register for special occasions (a wedding, baby shower, housewarming, or back to college) at the Swedish retailer. Today, the company launched a new gift registry, making it easier for customers to request everything from sofas to dishes to baby clothes.
Shoppers can create a registry in store, through the new IKEA Gift Registry app (available on iOS and Android), or at the retailer’s website. Before you set up the registry, you’ll have to be an IKEA FAMILY member, the company’s free loyalty program. If you’re creating one in the store, you’ll need to download the app. You can then scan product barcodes or take pictures of items through the “snap photo” function. Online, customers can add products to a wish list through category pages. The website also includes suggestions for specific registries (wedding, baby shower, and new home) to help get you started—a handy tool considering IKEA's extensive inventory. You can share the registry with friends and family through text message, email, or social media accounts.
It’s also easy to purchase gifts from a registry. In addition to the more traditional ways of purchasing—online and in store—there are two new ways to buy items. You can either “chip in” an amount to go towards big-ticket pieces or add the amount of the product’s total price to a gift card instead of actually purchasing the item.
IKEA is also hosting a big giveaway for the launch. Customers who create an IKEA registry between February 14, 2017 and May 31, 2017 have the chance to win a $1,000 IKEA gift card—three winners will be chosen.
