It’s all part of the retailer’s latest collaboration with a popular design brand.

Design insiders might be familiar with HAY, the popular Danish design company run by husband-and-wife team Mette and Rolf Hay, but even if you’re just getting introduced to the cult-favorite brand, you’ll find that it has a lot in common with the Swedish retailer—the pieces are streamlined, functional, and stylish. So it was a no-brainer when the two companies collaborated on a new collection, YPPERLIG, which debuts this October at IKEA.

The line features household basics, like a sleeper sofa, chairs, mirrors with storage, and even a stationery set for your home office. But the most exciting new product is the reinvented IKEA bag, which we first reported about last year. It still has that sturdy, utility appeal, but it’s gotten a chic update and comes in three different colors. “It’s one of the most known and used IKEA products, but one that no one appreciates as a design object,” Mette Hay said in a press release. “We kept its measurements and updated it in new patterns and colors. It’s a celebration of this iconic product.”

Take a look at some picks from the collection below, and see more at

Since it comes in three different colors (yellow, dark red, and various shades of green), it’s a bit more inconspicuous than the bright blue version. And don’t worry, it still has the same functionality as the trusty original—use it as a hamper, garden bag, recycling tote, and more.

This mirror does double-duty. You can check yourself out in the mornings and stash miscellaneous items in its built-in shelf. While you can hang it in just about every room in your house, it would be extra helpful in your entryway so you can store keys and mail.

You might look at this sofa and think, “I could never get a good night’s sleep on this.” Think again. The cushions are constructed like a pocket spring mattress.
