I Tried Amazon's Best-Selling Handheld Vacuum, and My Apartment's Never Been Cleaner
I originally came across the vacuum the same way I find many of the other customer-loved products I write about: It was consistently at the top of Amazon's best-sellers chart, and I noticed how many perfect reviews it had (over 22,000 five-star ratings, in fact). So when I decided that a handheld vacuum would be way more convenient for everyday messes than pulling out a clunky upright model, I already knew exactly which one I wanted to buy.
Even though the Black + Decker vacuum is lightweight enough to carry around the house, it still has good suction power for a handheld version. It easily sucks up crumbs, dust, and long strands of hair from every nook and cranny of my apartment, and it's so convenient that I actually look forward to vacuuming with this little powerhouse. I love that I'm not restricted to where I clean by its size or weight, and having no cords to fumble with is a major plus. I've even started keeping it in my bedroom (where I spend most of my time) so that it's always around whenever I see something I need to vacuum.
It has an extendable nozzle that rotates 180 degrees, which makes it easy to reach into tight spaces like under my bed, behind the toilet, and in the gaps between the fridge and the cabinet. And since I hate bugs, I've found this feature especially helpful for vacuuming up spiders from the ceiling. Pro tip: You can lock the nozzle extension into place so that it doesn't collapse (something I learned after a bit of trial and error).
To buy: $59; amazon.com.
The handheld vacuum runs for about 20 minutes or so, but I hardly ever need to use it for more than 10 minutes at a time. And since it fully charges in just four hours and holds its battery really well, it's always ready to go whenever I need it. It also comes with a slim charging base, which doubles as a stand and is easy to tuck away when not in use.
Thanks to the translucent dust bin, I can see exactly how much dirt and debris I've picked up, so I know when it's time to empty it; just press the two buttons on the side to lift the nozzle and empty the bin. When it's time for a deeper clean, the bowl and filter can be washed by hand with a bit of soap and water.
As someone with long, curly hair and a bad habit of leaving behind a million crumbs after eating, finding piles of both around my room at the end of the day is almost inevitable. But luckily, the Black + Decker handheld vacuum makes it easy to clean it all up without missing a beat—and trust me when I say that thanks to these quick and efficient vacuum sessions, my apartment's never been cleaner.
