It's the coffee chain’s latest holiday flavor.

When we tried Starbucks seasonal Frappuccino flavors in the past, we had one wish: that it would have its own distinct taste. Well, we've finally got our wish with their newest flavor released today. And true to form, we should have been careful what we wished for.

The newest holiday Frappuccino flavor? Fruitcake. Seriously… The drink is a Hazelnut Crème Frappuccino with blended-in dried fruit bits and cinnamon, topped with whipped cream, some caramel dots, and sprinkled matcha. And it looks about as appetizing as it sounds.

This release comes one day before National Ugly Sweater Day (December 16), and the coffee chain is running a promotion for their reward members to celebrate. For every Fruitcake Frappuccino purchased, members will receive a free ugly sweater beverage cozy.

If you’re surprised at Starbucks’ choice, know that our local baristas were, too. One of our editors was able to order the drink without any issues, but when it came time to make it, the barista was a bit confused. Our editor had to show her (very helpful!) barista the ingredients to know exactly what was in it. Overall, it took about half an hour before she left with a Grande in hand.

Once the drink was in the office, the only positive things our fair and levelheaded staff were able to say was about the matcha sprinkled on top. It was a vibrant shade of green (and on trend with Pantone’s newly released color of the year). But when it came time to taste, we had to dig deep to find anything generous to say—though the drink does taste like a fruitcake (if you’re into that thing). Here are some more of our thoughts:

I feel like fruitcake is something most people already don’t enjoy, so the thought that someone came up with the idea to put it in a liquid form and make it cold is strange to me. It tastes like a mom tried to put healthy stuff into a smoothie for a child and didn’t blend it in all the way.

I like the creativity of this drink. Generally the frappes taste like sweetened milk, but this one does have its own distinct flavor.

The whole thing tastes very artificial and overly sweet. I would be concerned about someone drinking an entire cup of that. Parents—don’t feed this to your kids!

When you’re drinking a Frappuccino, the last thing you’re expecting is a big hunk of dried cranberry coming through your straw.

It tastes like maple syrup and is way too artificial. The green on the top really freaks me out and it’s too thick.

It tastes like a fruitcake, but that’s not saying much.

The verdict? If you’re one of the few people in the world who enjoys fruitcake, you’ll get a kick out of this. If not, you might want to stick to other Starbucks holiday classics, like the chestnut praline latte or the peppermint mocha.
