Valentine’s Day Card Boxes
Valentine’s Day might be even more fun before it comes with the pressure of flowers, dates, and gifts. You know, back when everyone had to get a card for the whole class? But kids need a place to house that haul of Valentines and candy from friends and classmates. This year, instead of just using a plain old box, why not turn it into a bit of an activity, and an excuse for the whole family to take on a fun project together—nothing says love like some solid bonding time, after all. Here you’ll find a half-dozen ideas for transforming a standard container (think: a shoe box, a cereal box, a tissue box, an oatmeal container, or even a mini trash can) into a super cool mailbox that’s ready to welcome an abundance of Valentine’s Day cards and treats. It’s easy to get started—to create the simpler boxes (the heart-eye emoji box, the woodland creature bags, the train, and even the cupcake garbage can) you’ll just need a few basic craft supplies, like scissors, tape, and colored paper. Even the more complex (the unicorn and the robot) only require a few extras, like ribbon, stickers, or wrapping paper.

Heart-Eyes Card Box
To transform a tissue box into your favorite emoji face, you only need three colors of paper: red, yellow, and black.
What You’ll Need:
- Square tissue box (or plain white square gift box)
- Yellow paper
- Scissors
- Double-sided tape or glue
- Craft knife
- Red paper
- Black paper
How-to:
- Wrap the empty square tissue box in yellow paper. If the sheet is long enough, wrap as you would a present. If the sheet is not long enough, cut paper to fit each side and tape or glue down individually. (If using a white gift box, cut a rectangle big enough to fit a card from the top before wrapping.) Use a craft knife to cut out a rectangle where the tissue dispenser is.
- Cut two hearts from the red paper. Tape or glue to the side of the box.
- Cut a crescent shape from the black paper. Tape or glue under the hearts to create the smile.
