Did you know that you can mold warm Rice Krispies treats into all sorts of shapes? Ghosts, Goblins, even Jack-o’-Lanterns! We fashioned them into tiny beggars purses and hid leftover Halloween Candy inside. As if the classic marshmallow and cereal combo weren’t enough, kids (and adults) will love the surprise they find inside. To make easy work on shaping the sticky mixture, use damp hands or lightly spray them with non-stick spray. These will keep, tightly wrapped at room temperature, for a couple weeks, but we doubt they’ll last that long.
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 10 oz. bag miniature marshmallows
4 drops orange gel food coloring
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
3 cups assorted unwrapped small candies + candy corn
Chocolate chips and miniature peanut butter cups, for decorating
How to Make It
In a large microwave safe bowl, heat butter on high 30 seconds or until melted. Add marshmallows and toss to coat. Heat 1 minute and 30 seconds, stirring every 45 seconds, until marshmallows have melted and mixture is uniform. Stir in food coloring, followed by Rice Krispies cereal. Let cool until just warm to the touch, about 2 minutes.
Lightly spray a cookie sheet with oil. Flatten about 1 cup of the mixture into a disc 5-inches across. Mound candies in center of disc and wrap like a beggar’s purse, forming a ball. Decorate as desired. Store at room temperature in an airtight container up to 2 weeks.
