If you’re planning to dress up as a witch for Halloween this year (check out our DIY witch costume tutorial for easy ways to make the outfit your own), you’re definitely going to need a sorceress’s most important piece of arm candy: a broomstick. Rather than buy a broom from the party store like every other witch on the block, set yourself apart with this DIY witch broom crafted in five minutes and for less than $5. Start by gathering ordinary sticks and twigs from the woods or the backyard, and when combined with an inexpensive bamboo pole and twine from the home improvement store, they’ll magically turn into a broom. The one we built is perfectly sized for a grown-up witch, but to adjust the size for a child, look for shorter bamboo poles or cut a branch from the backyard down to the right size. With this broomstick in hand, you’re set to be the best- accessorized witch around.

How to Make a DIY Witch Broom

What You’ll Need:

  • Bamboo pole, such as this one from Home Depot
  • Small branches and twigs
  • Twine
  • Glue

Follow These Steps:

  1. Collect branches that are approximately two feet long. If necessary, snap longer branches to shorten them to about the same length. Gather the branches in one hand, lining up all of the ends on one side. Hold the bundle up to one end of the bamboo pole, and wrap twine tightly around the branches and pole several times before securing with a knot.
  2. Add a dab of glue between the branches and pole to secure them in place. Let dry completely before flying off to the Halloween party.
