Woman Returns “Dead” Christmas Tree to Costco in January—And Gets a Full Refund
We're all about great return policies, but this is certainly generous.
At the start of the new year, taking down the Christmas tree is at the top of many people’s to-do lists. After removing the lights and packing up the ornaments, the obvious next step is to dispose of it. But this year, one woman in California had another idea.
On January 4th, a woman at a Costco in the suburbs of Los Angeles successfully returned her Christmas tree for a full refund, according to a Facebook post by a man who witnessed the transaction. This is slightly ridiculous, of course, because even well-maintained Christmas trees don't often live for more than one month.

“I can’t make this stuff up,” he wrote. “…Woman in line at Costco, totally nonchalant, to return her Christmas tree ‘because it is dead’ on January 4th. I saw the whole thing go down with my own two eyes about 30 minutes ago.”
Costco is known for having a very generous return policy. The store will refund your purchase price on all merchandise, with the exception of electronics after 90 days of purchase, diamonds, 1.00 ct or larger unless original paperwork is provided, cigarettes and alcohol, products sold with a product-specific limited warranty (such as tires and batteries), and special order kiosk or custom installed programs.
It seems everything else, including Christmas trees, is fair game. Luckily, you don't have to go to those lengths to reap the benefits of Costco. In fact, we bet you didn't even know these great benefits existed.
