Drink Cola or Lemonade?

"The number one culprit for tooth decay seems to be citrus flavoring," whether it's natural or artificial, says J. Anthony von Fraunhofer, a professor of biomaterials at the University of Maryland Dental School, in Baltimore, and lead author of a study published in the January/February issue of General Dentistry.
The study found that lemonade and citrus-flavored sodas and energy drinks caused up to 11 times more enamel damage than colas when sipped consistently over several hours.
But… There's no need to give up citrusy beverages altogether - just drink them with food, and don't sip too leisurely. "Anything is OK in moderation," says Matthew Messina, a dentist in Cleveland and a spokesperson for the American Dental Association. "But be sure to brush your teeth or floss soon after drinking them." Also, many citrus drinks contain vitamin C, which may help maintain the immune system.
