Boozy Lemon Seltzer Is This Summer’s Best Invention

No more bad hangovers.

Few things beat cracking open a cold one next to the pool. Unless it’s super hot outside and you’re wearing a bikini and you’d rather sip on something that doesn’t give you a beer gut. Wine’s a good option ($1 Trader Joe’s Canned Rose, anyone?) but sometimes even that’s too sweet when it’s pushing 95°F outside.

Enter hard seltzer. It’s just as refreshing as regular sparkling water—only it’s 5% ABV (that's alcohol by volume: beer averages 4.5% while wine is about 11.6%). Just like rum, the beverage gets its kick from fermented cane sugar. The fermentation process leaves the fizzy beverage with a slightly sweet flavor but barely any actual sugar.

A handful of hard seltzer companies exploded onto the scene last year with all sorts of tantalizing flavors, but Truly Spiked & Sparkling’s new Lemon & Yuzu is by far our favorite. Many we’ve tried have a slightly bitter aftertaste that betrays they’re not pure seltzer. Not so when it comes to this citrus-forward drink. Imagine your favorite classic lemon seltzer, and you know what this boozy version tastes like. It’s truly incredible that the hydrating water sneakily gives you a buzz, too.

If a couple bottles go down a little too easily, you don’t have to worry about bloating or a bad hangover (or gluten for that matter). A single Truly has just 100 calories, 2 grams of carbohydrates, and 1 gram of sugar. To put things into perspective, an IPA might contain double the calories, 10 times the carbohydrates, and 15 times the sugar.

Have we convinced you to give them a whiz yet? Look for it wherever beer is sold. Pro tip: it pairs well with sunglasses and cute pool floaties.
