Juicing is a fantastic way to easily add more nutrients from fruits and vegetables to your diet, but regular visits to juice bars can really start to add up. Making your own juice at home is more cost effective, convenient, and lets you customize your blend. However, choosing the best juicer can feel a little overwhelming. We’re here to help.

Different types of juicers don’t always handle soft fruits, hard roots, and leafy greens equally well. You’ll also need to consider how often and how quickly you’ll want to make juice for yourself, where you’ll store your juicer, and of course, how much you’d like to spend.

We surveyed the market and put popular models through their paces with commonly juiced and tricky-to-juice produce, including curly kale, strawberries, apples, and celery stalks for celery juice. This guide includes our picks for best juicers, the factors you’ll need to consider based on how you’ll be juicing, and the features that matter the most.

1 BEST VALUE JUICER: Hamilton Beach 67650A Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor

For people just trying out the juicing trend, juice drinkers on a budget, or those who will only be juicing every now and then, the best juicer for you is the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro. Retailing at only $70, this value juicer has features that rival much more expensive models. A three-inch chute means much less time prepping fruits and vegetables for juicing—it even handled whole carrots and whole apples with no problem.

Easy to assemble, clean, and use, this centrifugal model has a 1.1 horsepower motor (equivalent to about 820 watts). It’s small enough to fit under the counter but note that it’s largely made of plastic, so it may not have the high-end aesthetic you’re looking for. It comes with a small 20-ounce pitcher, but the height of the juice spout means it’s easy to use your own pitchers for larger batch juicing (and it has a large external pulp container, too).

This model did a fantastic job on all our tests and produced high-quality juices in high volume. It even handled kale, which is notoriously difficult to juice, extremely well. We highly recommend this juicer as a starter model or for those who may not juice often but want the option to. It comes with a three-year warranty, which delivers peace of mind in the event something stops working properly.

2 BEST COMPACT JUICER: Breville BJE200XL Compact Juice Fountain 700 Watt Juice Extractor

This sleek juicer is easy to assemble, easy to use, extremely fast juicing, easy to clean, compact, lightweight, and beautiful to behold. With all of those positive attributes, no wonder the Breville Compact Juice Fountain is our pick for best compact juicer. It boasts a three-inch feed tube that lets you juice whole apples in three seconds flat, as well as a very handy 25-ounce Juice Jug with storage lid and optional froth separator.

This juicer is all about speed, convenience, and simplicity–we highly recommend it for those who are tight on space but want to juice frequently and quickly. Its titanium cutting disc and high-powered 700-watt motor pack a punch (but also make a blender-volume level of noise). We couldn’t believe how quickly it juiced everything from strawberries and whole apples to whole carrots and kale. As with most centrifugal juicers, it didn’t yield as much juice from kale as masticating models, but the difference was slight. A very high-design machine, we also love the internal pulp container –it conserves counter space and keeps cleanup and assembly simple. However, this isn’t the juicer for you if you plan to juice in bulk; you’ll need to pause to disassemble the juicer to empty the pulp container. As with all the juicers we reviewed, it comes with a cleaning brush and the parts are dishwasher safe. At only $99 it’s also an incredible value and comes with a one-year warranty.

Not all of the best juicers are meant for squeezing sip-ready drinks. Some are excellent at just one task: getting every last drop of juice from citrus fruits, like oranges, limes, lemons, and grapefruit. That makes it the ideal addition to kitchen appliances for people who love a glass of fresh orange juice with brunch or use fresh lemon juice in hot toddies.

While this is a one-task juicer, its retro-inspired aesthetic is beautiful and sleek enough for countertop presentation. When not in use, the bowl-shaped Triton plastic lid keeps the stainless steel juicer clean and free of dust. Place a cup or bowl directly under the spout for no-drip dispensing. Toggle the spout up when you need to stop the flow of juice to change cups or containers. This juicer comes in six cool colors: baby blue, green, pink, red, black, and cream. If you like your citrus juicing capabilities to go with you (perhaps to an outdoor bar or the beach), a handheld citrus juicer might be preferable to this electric one.

4 BEST HIGH VOLUME JUICER: Breville 800JEXL Juice Fountain Elite 1000 Watt Juice Extractor

Breville’s top-of-the-line commercial-grade centrifugal juicer doesn’t disappoint. Boasting a super strong and fast 1000-watt motor with two speed controls, this machine plows through piles of fruits and vegetables in a flash. The variable speed options give you more control–Breville recommends using the high-speed setting (13,000 RPM) for hard fruits and vegetables and low setting (6,500 RPM) for softer fruits and vegetables. While it does make noise equivalent to a blender, it works so quickly you won’t have to listen long.

A three-inch feed tube lets you juice whole fruits and vegetables with significantly less prep time. This best juicer is built to last with titanium reinforced cutting blades that stay sharp longer and are made entirely of die-cast materials. But be aware that it only has a one-year warranty. Breville does sell replacement parts on its website. We love the included one-liter juice jug with built-in froth separator and cover.

This juicer is perfect for juicing in bulk—it has a large capacity external pulp container so you can juice piles of fruits and vegetables with no breaks. It didn’t extract as much juice out of kale as other models we tested, but unless your juicing emphasis is on leafy greens, this juicer is perfect for high-volume juicing.

BEST MULTI-FUNCTION JUICER: Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

5 BEST MULTI-FUNCTION JUICER: Omega J8006 Nutrition Center Juicer

Green juice fans, the Omega J8006 is your best juicer choice. This classic cold press masticating juicer has been a best seller for years and produced the highest volume of kale juice of all the juicers we tested. It works quietly at slow speeds (only 80 RPM) to extract juice from all kinds of produce. Its dual-stage juicing system mimics how humans chew–the crush and press process produces drier pulp and high juice yield. We did have to spend more time cutting fruits and vegetables up to fit them into the small feed tube and occasionally had to stop juicing and use the “reverse” feature to handle clogs. It also produced slightly less juice from hard fruits and vegetables, and as a horizontal model, it has a bigger countertop footprint. However, it offers additional functions, such as pureeing nuts into nut butters, grinding spices and coffee, making pasta and baby food, all with an extremely generous 15-year warranty.

6 BEST VERTICAL MULTI FUNCTION JUICER: Tribest SW-2000-B Slowstar Vertical Slow Cold Press Juicer and Mincer

We found vertical masticating juicers like the Tribest Slowstar to be easier to assemble, use, and clean than horizontal models. Made by a company specializing in the wellness market, the Slowstar’s double-bladed auger creates a double cut, doing twice as much work compared to a traditional auger while operating at a low hum. It has a generous feed tube that makes it easier to prep produce with no motor jams at all–even putting whole leaves and stems of kale directly into the juicer didn’t clog it.

The pulp from the Tribest Slowstar was also the driest of all the tests; this juicer machine squeezes every bit of juice from produce with high yields. We loved the slightly thicker results of the carrot-apple juice test, but if you don’t care for pulpy juices, this may not be the best model for you. The Slowstar also serves as a multi-purpose kitchen tool; an included Mincing Attachment lets you make sorbets, nut butters, and even cookie dough. It comes with a generous 10-year warranty and has a sleek finish you won’t mind displaying on your countertop.

BEST JUICE QUALITY: Omega VSJ843 Vertical Slow Masticating Juicer

7 BEST JUICE QUALITY: Omega VSJ843 Vertical Slow Masticating Juicer

Omega’s newest vertical masticating cold juicer, the VSJ843, is a great choice if you plan to juice leafy greens often and want easy clean-up and storage. Standing at a squat 15.5 inches, this quiet and low-profile juicer will easily fit under low-hanging cabinets or tuck away in a closet, too. This juicer’s large feed tube and auger work faster than other masticating juicers and easily handled all produce types, from whole leaves of kale to strawberries, carrots, and apples. We got high yields of perfectly smooth juice with little to no pulp. The auger design also makes it much easier to clean than typical masticating juicers; Omega’s “Easy Clean” feature continually sweeps away pulp as you juice, so most surfaces just need a quick rinse in between produce types. It worked quickly and quietly and can also be used to make nut milks, frozen fruit sorbets, and smoothies. This model comes with a 15-year warranty and is perfect for frequent quality juicing of leafy greens and other produce with easy cleanup.
