Wait till you see what he wrote on one customer's Butterbeer Frappuccino.
True—the Caramel Macchiato and Pumpkin Spice Latte will always be customer favorites at Starbucks. However, the coffee chain's secret menu offerings often become just as popular as the permanent items (in fact, the secret pink drink is now on the menu year-round). The latest addition is two Harry Potter-themed beverages, including a Butterbeer Frappuccino and a Butterbeer Latte.
Though initially customers had to provide baristas with specifics (a Créme Frappuccino with three pumps of caramel syrup and three pumps of toffee nut syrup, for example), the secret menu's surge in popularity means most baristas can now whip up the Butterbeer offerings by heart. And while not all Starbucks employees are thrilled by these crazy concoctions (they really hated the Unicorn Frappuccino), at least one barista is having fun with the new Harry Potter drinks.
On Thursday, Jan. 18, the morning show team at WEAU 13 News, the NBC-affiliated television station for western Wisconsin, sent a few staffers to pick up the new beverages. Thomas, a producer, gave the barista his name for the order. When he received the Butterbeer Frappuccino, he noticed the barista had added the last name “Riddle.” Harry Potter fans know, of course, that Thomas Riddle is Voldemort's given name.
The WEAU 13 News team loved the clever drink sticker so much they posted a photo on their Facebook page, captioning it with: “Shout out to the Starbucks on Hastings Way for making all the Harry Potter drinks for Hello Wisconsin this morning." The barista, a man named Devin Ray, saw the post and commented that he “thought someone would appreciate it.”
