The new flavor's launch coincides with the upcoming solar eclipse.
We thought we’d done all our research on the August 21st solar eclipse, from where to get the best view and what equipment we need to how to watch it safely. But there was one key component we’d forgotten to consider: what we will be munching on as the Earth passes through the moon’s shadow.
Luckily, Krispy Kreme just decided that for us. During evening Hot Light hours (when the neon Krispy Kreme sign is lit up outside their stores) on August 19 and 20, as well as all day on August 21, customers can enjoy a Chocolate Glazed Doughnut. That’s right—their addictive classic treat is getting a chocolate makeover (you could even say it’s getting “eclipsed” in chocolate). To create the mouthwatering doughnut, a rich chocolate glaze is poured over their famous Original Glazed Doughnut. You can watch the magic happen in their mesmerizing launch video.
“The solar eclipse is a rare occasion providing a total sensory experience for viewers across the continental U.S.,” Jackie Woodward, chief marketing officer of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, said in a statement. “The Chocolate Glazed Doughnut is a delicious way to experience the solar eclipse—no matter where you are—and we can’t wait for fans to try it.”
The doughnuts will be available at participating U.S. stores. After August 21, don't fear—you can still purchase Krispy Kreme's other new release. Their Reese's Peanut Butter Cup doughnuts are available in select stores and are filled with peanut butter sauce, dipped in chocolate icing and topped with peanut butter chips and vanilla cookie crumble.
