We Tried the New Dunkin’ Donuts Pop-Tarts
It’s like breakfast and coffee, rolled into one.
If your daily breakfast routine involves a toaster pastry and coffee, you’re in for a (very sweet) treat. Pop-Tarts teamed up with Dunkin’ Donuts to create two new Limited Edition latte-inspired flavors: Frosted Chocolate Mocha and Frosted Vanilla Latte.
Fans of warm, decadent mochas and creamy hot cocoa will want to head for the chocolate variety, which has a chocolate-espresso filling and a whipped-cream inspired frosting. The vanilla flavor packs a sweet vanilla punch and is topped with a swirl of coffee-flavored glaze. The eight-count boxes are currently rolling out at grocery stores nationwide and will retail for $2.59 per box.
We were intrigued, and rightfully so: This is the first coffee-inspired Pop-Tarts flavor ever. (There have been other interesting limited-edition flavors, however, including Maple Bacon and Caramel Apple). The editors were almost unanimous in their opinions: the Frosted Chocolate Mocha, which tastes similar to a brownie and isn’t overly sweet, is far superior to the Frosted Vanilla Latte. One editor found the chocolate flavor reminiscent of a S’mores Pop-Tart, but with a subtle coffee aftertaste. The vanilla, on the other hand, tasted more artificial, and most editors didn’t return for second bites. One, however, likened the taste to that of a warm pancake with a generous pour of maple syrup.
