We're big fans of corn in all its forms—fresh, frozen, popped—and that includes the humble can of creamed corn. The half-pureed kernels hold on to their lemony color and mildly sweet flavor when processed, and the luscious, creamy consistency comes from the high starch content. (There's no actual cream.)

Try using cream-style corn instead of flour (which can clump) to thicken stews, soups, and sauces. It's also a main ingredient in hush puppies and several casseroles. Here are our two favorite recipes for creamed corn.

As if creamed corn weren't delicious enough on its own, this sweet and savory side dish ups the ante by adding onions, thyme, and honey. There's also  ¼ cup of heavy cream in the mix, which adds a comforting richness that pairs nicely with a steak or roasted chicken.
