I've made these several times and my family loves them. I've used both refrigerated and homemade dough and they both work fine. I've also used cheeses other than mozzarella. The measurements given in the recipe are perfect as is. Not confusing if you follow them. Personally, I find the size of the calzones to be enormous, so I only eat half. The rest of my family eats a whole one (and then some). These can be a bit time-consuming, so if you're in a hurry, stick to conveniences like pre-shredded cheese, packaged spinach, and refrigerated dough.
Hi, stephanieliz: The 4 ounces actually refers to a weight measure, not a liquid measure. When you shred the 4 ounces of mozzarella, you should be able to fill a cup with the cheese, according to our food department. Hope that clears up the issue.
there is 8 ounces in a cup, not 4. please learn your measurements before you post a recipe because people are going to get confused. I did not make this just because of that mistake, even though i could have figured it out for myself.
I am really surprised by the low rating! My family loves these. I have made them with frozen, refrigerated, and homemade pizza dough. Sometimes I use pepperoni instead of salami. They turn out great every time.
