2½ pounds apples, peeled, cored, and cut into ½-inch slices
1½ cups cranberries, frozen or fresh
¼ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
⅛ teaspoon kosher salt
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
How to Make It
Make the topping: In a large bowl, combine the flour, oats, almonds, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. In a 12-inch skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour mixture and cook, stirring often, until the mixture is golden brown and smells toasty, 10 to 12 minutes. Transfer to a plate. Wipe out the skillet.
Make the filling: In a large bowl, toss together the apples, cranberries, sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Melt the butter in the skillet over medium heat. Add the apple mixture and cook until the fruit is tender, stirring often, 10 to 12 minutes. Sprinkle with the oat topping to serve.
