Not sure why I cannot rate this 5 stars, but it is the best crab cakes I have ever had! I did make a few changes/additions. I used salt and pepper potato chips and 3 cups vs 2.5, added the juice of 1/2 lemon and a few shakes of worchestshire sauce and garlic powder to the mix before folding in the crab ( I only use Lump Crab Meat). This cooks VERY fast, so watch the entire cooking time, I had my rack one level above the middle of the oven to be sure not to burn while broiling before it was fully heated through and the majority of the time had the oven cracked open. I did not add the pad of butter on top because the potatoes chips mixed in already have a lot of butter in them.
I made this recipe for a recent bookclub dinner and everyone loved it! I even forgot to put the butter on top of each cake and they still loved it. I am definitely making this again!
