i fowlled the directions on the package an the long grain bown rice still came hard an crunchy. why.....

I can't comment on the success of this particular method because I do it differently and in much less time. Rice to Water ratio 1:1.5. Bring to a boil, lower to a simmer, cover and cook for just 20 minutes. Let stand for 5-10 minutes. I cook professionally and do it this way every time.
