Just made this. The only change I made was using various/blended frozen fruits. Frozen pineapple, mango, and strawberries. You don't taste the kale at all. Delicious! Will definitely be making this again.
Loved it! Made sight changes---a little more pineapple, a small frozen banana, 1/3 water & used about 2/3 cup coconut water instead of coconut milk. It tasted very pineapple-y & got the smoothness of the banana without interfering with the pineapple flavor.
Loving this smoothie! Wasn't too sure about the coconut milk when I opened the can but I mixed it with my smoothie mixer before adding it to my smoothie. I halved the recipe except for the banana...
Coconut has the fat you want. Read up on coconut, there is a lot of info out there on line
I usually make my kale smoothies with soy milk or almond milk, but I'm going to be trying this one today... I just use a bullet blender right now, and what I do to get the kale fully ground up is put it in the bullet first, pour the milk over, and then blend just those two ingredients first. I find doing that works better for the kale, but it also makes a really creamy smoothie when the other ingredients (esp if one is frozen) gets added.
This was delicious! I used Almond Breeze Unsweetened Almond Coconut blend milk instead of coconut milk, and I didn't use any water. Like another reviewer said, I added a serving size of almonds to give it some protein. I also added a dash of almond extract and coconut extract. Truly enjoyed this!
I used water as a base, instead of coconut milk, and used frozen pineapple, and threw 12 almonds in for protein! This is a yummy smoothie! The pineapple is sweet and tart and makes it taste like a sweet treat!
A better blender?
I agree. It tastes great but right now I'm adding more pineapples to the mix to try to get over the chewing of kale.
Love the flavor, but my kids hate the texture - the kale doesn't seem to get totally ground up. How do I make it so that there aren't bits of kale floating around?
If anyone's interested, mango goes really well with kale and banana too.
I have food sensitivities and cannot have pineapple. do you have a suggestion for another fruit in place of it?
Kale Smoothie With Pineapple and Banana Recipe did not know that 1/2 cup of coconut milk has 26 gr of fat, that's assuming that the fruits and veggies don't have any...is this true?
Can this be made at night for breakfast or lunch the next day????
not for the smoothie. use fresh kale and do wash it first, though.
Where can I get coconut milk from ??
Hi, Do you have to boil kale?
Tried this recipe for the first time, but used almond/coconut milk instead(that's all I had at the time). I also added a little fresh ginger. It was excellent!!!!
My family was leery about green smoothies, but this recipe was a moderate hit. After a few tries, I've settled on light coconut milk, frozen bananas and pineapple, and a couple of ice cubes. The smoothie really is delicious and it feels great to get in a serving of greens before walking out the door in the morning.
I've been making this smoothie for a couple months and just think it's delicious. This morning I made it with three cups of organic baby kale (Costco), 3/4 cup light coconut milk, 1/2 super-ripe banana, and 1 1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks. Best ever.
Like the other two green smoothie recipes, this is delicious. The fat from the coconut milk makes it slightly more filling than the others. I live alone and drink the whole pitcher for breakfast. So good!
