Everyone knows someone that lathers ketchup on 99 percent of the food they consume. If that someone is you, and there's no ketchup to be found, this recipe's for you. And even if you do have some store-bought on hand, making this fan-favorite condiment from scratch will take your ketchup obsession to a whole new level. And it only takes 20 minutes, so it's ready by the time your fries have finished roasting. Double the batch and never worry about having to skimp on your ideal dipping ratio every again.

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces tomato paste

  • ½ cup light corn syrup

  • ½ cup white vinegar

  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder

  • teaspoon garlic powder

Directions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk all ingredients and bring to a boil.

  2. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20 minutes, uncovered, whisking every couple of minutes.

  3. Once thickened, remove from heat and cool to room temperature. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks or freeze for up to 6 months.
