Dirty Tonic


Miss your martini? This brine-kissed cocktail mimics the bracing, icy edge of the classic cocktail without adding an ounce of vodka or gin. Because tonic water is one of the essential ingredients here, it pays to seek out a premium brand, such as Fever Tree, that is dry and herbal and free of artificial sweeteners.

  • 1 ounce olive brine

  • ½ ounce lemon juice

  • 4 ounces tonic water

  • 3 dashes angostura bitters

  • Green olives, optional


  1. Combine the olive brine, lemon juice, and tonic water in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Stir gently until very cold, then strain into a cocktail glass and top with bitters. Garnish with olives, if desired.
