I know everyone always has changes to posted recipes. So sorry in advance, but...a dash of cayenne pepper really makes this dip amazing. Try the dip before you add it though. If it tastes a little bland add it. If not, why mess with a good thing?
I agree!
This was a HUGE hit at my house on Christmas Eve! My aunt said she would eat just this for dinner and would be happy! It is pretty easy to make, a little time consuming when it comes to getting the onion ready, but it is also great because it keeps well in the fridge for a few days after. I agree with everyone that the consistency is a little thick for chips, but it would also be great to dip fresh raw vegetables in. I would even recommend spreading some of this on a toasted bagel to switch things up!
This is really freakin' good! I took tips from other users and halved the cream cheese and and ran the onions through a food processor for smoother consistency. Tastes great with low fat sour cream and reduced fat cream cheese.
I made this for new years eve and it was SOOOOOO easy! And GOOD! I didn't use the whole block of cream cheese (used 1/2 the block) and I believe I used a 1/2 cup of sour cream INSTEAD of a cup. Perfect! O and the store didn't have fresh chives so I used tried.
Made this for our New Year's Day Polar Plunge. It was delicious. The next time I will use less cream cheese and more sour cream as it was a bit thick for dipping chips.
Shouldn't curdle if you let the onions cool as noted in recipe. Important for cheese to be at room temperature.
Tried this just this evening and it was exceptionally good. Served it on vegetable dippers and grilled baguette sections. *Note that I changed the recipe by carmelizing the onions in EVOO and used a low fat cream cheese and non-fat sour cream. Wonderful flavor. As previous entry states, better than that one would buy pre-made.
I have made a very similar recipe and liked it. However, when I served it to guests, they didn't like the pieces of caramelized onion. Running it through the food processor made a smoother dip that people seemed to prefer. You can control the texture by the amount of time you process it.
Just tried this for New Year's Eve tomorrow but the cream cheese curdled when I added the sour cream. Is this normal?
If you like onion dip, take the time to make this. You'll never go back to pre-made from the store!
