This Shoe Brand With a Big Celeb Following Released Its First Vegan Sneaker (and It’s Good)
Hilary Duff and Jennifer Aniston are fans of Soludos.
In 2020, it's not enough for a shoe to simply fit well and look good. Customers are asking more of the products they invest in, and brands like Soludos are listening. The popular footwear brand just released its first sustainable shoe after receiving an influx of requests for a vegan sneaker from fans on social media and in person (pre-COVID-19).
The Yebo Sneaker, available now, is made with plant-based leather and recycled materials. Unlike other vegan leather, which is often made of environmentally harmful synthetics, Soludos’ sustainable vegan leather is made in Italy with non-edible corn (yes, really). Along with corn extract, the eco-friendly shoe also contains recycled rubber and cork. Even the shoelaces are made of 100 percent biodegradable cotton, and the packaging the shoes come in is made from 100 percent recycled paper.
To buy: $149; soludos.com.
The sustainably produced sneaker is the result of customer requests and months of research. It’s available in four colors, including white, navy, and white with maroon or pink accents. At first glance, you’d never guess the stylish kicks were made out of recycled materials, let alone corn: They have a classic look that works with just about anything from your wardrobe, from sundresses to jeans.
Although the sneakers just hit shelves, if history is any indication, they won’t be available for long. The brand’s popular Rainbow Wave Sneaker frequently sells out and had a waitlist of over 2,100 people hoping to get their hands on the colorful shoes as recently as June. Not to mention, Soludos has a dedicated celebrity following that includes Hilary Duff, Jennifer Aniston, Margot Robbie, and Taylor Swift.
