I Tested Over 30 Sweat-Proof Makeup Products—These Are The Only Ones Worth Buying
These miracle products will stay put even on the most sweltering days.
Summer has finally arrived, and as much as I’m excited to enjoy the warmer weather outside, the one thing I’m not looking forward to is my makeup melting off by lunchtime. Every year as soon as temperatures start to rise, this struggle begins—so much so that my only choices are to go makeup-free or continuously reapply throughout the day.
Determined to get my makeup to stay in place during the hot and sticky days of summer without all the upkeep, I set out to find the best sweat-proof makeup products on the market. While there are hundreds of options that claim to be waterproof and sweat-proof, many of them fail to last all day in an air-conditioned office, let alone stay put during a long sunny day outdoors or an hour-long workout.
During my search, I tested over 30 different sweat-proof makeup products and managed to find eight incredible options that didn’t melt off during grueling gym sessions or humid days lounging by the pool. From long-lasting foundation to waterproof mascara, keep reading to see which makeup products will actually stay put through a full day of sweating.

This gel-cream blush by Perricone MD was specially formulated to add a hint of natural-looking color to your cheeks, and it features both vitamin C ester and Chinese ginger plant extract, which work together to brighten and smooth your skin. I loved the sheer rosy color this blush provided and the fact that the color is buildable so you can make it as dark or light as you want.
The blush comes in a glass bottle with a small applicator in the lid. To use, all you have to do is dab two to three dots on each cheek and blend. While it was super easy to apply, I will say that the product dries very quickly so you have to work fast. Along with supplying the perfect amount of rosiness to my cheeks, the blush also lasted throughout the entire day each time I wore it—including a five-hour long backyard BBQ on a hot and sticky day.

This multifaceted product from Milani is applied just like your favorite foundation, but it also works as a concealer at the same time, meaning you will get two makeup products for the price of one. The creamy formula evens out your skin tone while covering up blemishes, imperfections, and dark under-eye circles. The two-in-one product felt thick as I was applying it, but it’s once blended in, it felt incredibly lightweight and left my skin looking smooth and hydrated.
The product was incredibly easy to apply thanks to the pump bottle which releases the perfect amount of foundation. All it took was two small pumps to cover my entire face. I wore the foundation one afternoon while playing tennis outdoors, and it didn’t budge at all, even though I was very sweaty by the end of the match. The cruelty-free product comes in 29 different shades, so it was easy to find an option that matched my skin tone. Plus, at less than $10 a bottle, the long-lasting formula is definitely a steal in my opinion.

If you’d rather make the makeup you already own (and love) sweat-proof, check out this setting powder from Lawless. The talc-free powder’s main ingredient is mica, which locks your makeup in place and helps absorb oil and shine throughout the day. I applied the powder over the same products I normally wear, and for once they didn’t melt off after a few hours.
Besides locking everything in place, the setting powder also left my skin with a smooth matte finish and even made my pores look smaller. Along with being free of any sulfates and parabens, the setting powder is also cruelty-free, which was an added selling point for me. Out of all the products that I tested, this powder was one of my favorites—and, in fact, it’s a product that I continue to use every day.

Unlike other brow products that only come in three or four shades, this brow pencil from Benefit has 12 different color options to choose from, so it’s easy to find your perfect match. The pencil has an ultra-fine tip that allowed me to make small hair-like strokes that naturally blended into my eyebrows.
It also comes with a brush on the other end of the applicator, so you can easily erase any mistakes and start over again without using makeup remover. I was able to fill in sparse areas of my brows and make them look very natural, and I was amazed that the waterproof product lasted all day and even stayed on when I wore it in the pool.

As someone who constantly rubs their eyes, eyeliner is one makeup product I usually skip because I often end up looking like a raccoon by the end of the day. But when I heard about the staying power of Glossier’s Play Colorslide eyeliners, I knew I had to give them a try, since the waterproof product has been formulated to last for up to 12 hours.
The creamy pencil was easy to use, and I was able to create a smooth, straight cat-eye in a snap. Once applied, the product dries in about 10 seconds, so if you are going for a smokey eye look, I would recommend blending it quickly. Once it was dry, the liner didn’t budge no matter how much I rubbed my eyes. In fact, it stayed put so well, I had to rub a makeup remover wipe over my eyes several times to get it to come off.

I normally wear powder eyeshadows, but in the summer heat they tend to melt off by mid-day, so I wanted to give a cream eyeshadow a try. My favorite option that I tested was definitely the Milk Makeup Eye Pigment. The product is highly pigmented, so only a small amount is needed to provide a great pop of color, but it is also buildable for a more dramatic look.
The creamy formula was easy to blend, but like the Glossier eyeliner, it dried very quickly, so you’ll have to be fast when applying. I wore the eyeshadow to work all day and to a workout class after, and it didn’t crease or melt off no matter how sweaty I got. What’s more? I found the seven shimmery shades to be perfect for creating fun summer beauty looks.

This Covergirl mascara is specially formulated to stay in place while you’re active. Along with being sweat-proof, smudge-proof, and humidity-proof, the volumizing mascara is easy to apply and comes in three different colors. And it’s ophthalmologically-tested, so you won’t have to worry about it irritating your eyes.
I loved the mascara’s brush because it was easy to control and separated my lashes with every application. It helped make them look incredibly long and not at all clumpy. I'm such a big fan of this mascara now, I reach for it every time I know I’m going to be outside in the sun for long periods of time. It’s the one mascara I know won’t melt off.

I have a hard enough time keeping lipstick on during the winter, let alone the hot and sticky summer months, so I was pleasantly surprised with how well this liquid lipstick from Maybelline worked. The product claims to provide a vibrant lip color that “won’t cake, dry, or flake and stays looking fresh” for up to 24 hours. While I didn’t wear it for that long, I did make it through an outdoor bridal shower and dinner afterward without reapplying it.
The lipstick is applied in two phases. First, you apply the liquid gloss and then lock in the color with the clear lip balm found on the other side. Along with providing a vibrant color that lasted all day, the product made my lips feel super soft, shiny, and moisturized. The best part? The long-lasting lipstick is also the most affordable product on this list, which comes in handy seeing as how there’s a wide variety of pretty colors to choose from.
