Be free, feel good, and look however you want.

My whole life I've been inundated with rules. As a kid, I was told not to play with matches, to look both ways before crossing the road, and was forbidden from talking to strangers. And then as a teen, those logical rules gave way to other guidelines that, to be honest, were limiting. Don't wear too much makeup, de-frizz your curls, and so on. As we grow up we're made to believe that we should fall in line, rather than experiment and stand out.
Luckily, beauty trends are finally on the other end of the pendulum swing. Girls are encouraged to be free, feel good, and look however they want. That means wear as little (or as much) makeup as you see fit, dye your hair blue, cover yourself in body glitter—the sky's the limit. So, I've compiled a list of the top fifteen rules I'm most excited to break. Because it feels good to be bad, no?
Glitter is Not Only for Adolescents!
It can be tasteful, cool, and even incredibly beautiful.
Your Makeup No Longer Needs to Remain Subtle.
Spring for neon colors and interesting shapes when crafting your look. It's fun! And makeup is supposed to be just that.
Blue Eyeshadow Can Be '80s-Style Tacky.
But this fresh and modern take on the trend plays up your eyes and is super striking.
I Grew Up Believing That Frizz is a Bad Thing, That I Was Meant to Tame My Curls.
No longer! It's all about the tease, baby.
The Perfect Smoky Eye No Longer Requires You to Stay Within the Confines of Your Lid.
Brush up and over, and under and down for a sultry take on the played-out style.
Greasy Hair is No Longer Gross.
Rejoice! This one is my new favorite rule to break. Grease up, slick back, and play with product for a wet, Britney Spears "I'm a Slave 4 U" vibe. In a good way.
Dark Lipstick Isn't for Spring.
OF COURSE it is. Stock up on all the oxblood, maroon, and bordeaux shades you can. The best part? You'll save on new shades for fall.
I've Always Been Told That Bold Lips Shouldn't Be Paired With Bold Eyes.
When done correctly, it looks classic Old Hollywood gorgeous.
Your Eyebrows Don't Have to Match Your Hair Anymore.
I'm partial to a blonde with dark brows (or any woman with the moxy to dye them blue).
Gold is Not Just for Your Jewelry.
Gold leaf is inexpensive and you can use it to adorn yourself practically anywhere.
Red Eye Shadow Doesn't Have to Make You Look Strung Out.
The right shade for your skintone is perfect for spring (and will make blue eyes pop).
Bobby Pins Don't Have to Be Hidden, Ladies!
Make a cool design and people will be talking about your 'do for days.
