The 28-year-old actress totally inspired us on the red carpet last week.
At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival earlier this week, all eyes were on Kristin Stewart and her choice of footwear—or lack thereof. The 28-year-old actress stepped arrived in a sparkling Chanel mini dress and Christian Louboutin heels, which she promptly decided to remove—on the red carpet—in defiance of the film festival’s unspoken rule against women wearing flats.
While officials have denied their “black tie” dress code includes such a policy, stars like Stewart have been up in arms ever since several female invitees were reportedly denied entry to the 2015 premiere for the film Carol for wearing flats—even despite doing so for medical reasons.
“Things have to change immediately,” Stewart—who also swapped her heels for Vans on the festival red carpet in 2016—said at a roundtable discussion last year. “...You simply cannot ask me to do something that you are not asking him [to do]. I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version—flats or heels.”
Stewart undoubtedly deserves a round of applause for speaking out again the double standard, not to mention standing in solidarity with any woman who has ever suffered from an uncomfortable pair of heels.
